Revell 03874 1/32 Scale Revell 03874 Focke-Wulf FW190 A-8/R-2 'Sturmbock'
Revell have made an absolutely outstanding Fw190 kit! This amazing 1/32 Scale tool of the famous Fw190 focuses on the A-8/R-2 variant nicknamed the 'STURMBOCK' This kit captures this types specialized 30mm cannons additional armor panels which where fitted to help this particular variant of the Fw190 be more effective against the hoards of American Bombers the Germans faced every day during the mid/late part of WW2.
The first Fw190s appeared in 1941. Slated as a replacement for the seemingly invincible BF109, the Luftwaffe originally had no intention of accepting the FW190 however its success lay in its iconic BMW 14 cylinder radial engine, which is fully modeled in this kit. Derived from American designs the Fw190's engine aimed to combine the grunt power and durability of a radial engine into a streamlined fighter design. This had been done before to great effect in the A6M2 Zero, however the Germans wanted an aircraft that didn't sacrifice extra weight for armor and weapon payload. To that end the 190 was fitted with an aerodynamic cowling at the front for streamlining and to compensate for the reduced airflow this created a cooling fan was then fitted behind the propeller which is again featured in brilliant detail with this kit.
Ultimately the Bf109 and Fw190 would fight alongside each other through the mid and late years of the war, both rapidly evolving to become more effective and this kit fantastically illustrates and reproduces the refinements and iconic engineering of the Fw190 A-8/R-2
